  • Loss of strength: inadequate impact and crack resistance can lead to fracture under industrial vibration or accidental impact, so the guard no longer protects

  • Overall risk: saving a few thousand yuan on sheet for a piece of equipment worth tens of millions, only to have guards degrade badly in appearance and performance within a few years and need frequent replacement, is a false economy

4. Simple Ways to Tell Virgin from Recycled Sheet

To avoid losses from poor material selection, sheet quality can be identified quickly using the following methods:

  1. Check the cut-edge color: virgin sheet has a clear, colorless cut edge; recycled sheet has a yellowish edge, and some manufacturers add blue pigment to mask the yellow, giving the edge a faint blue tint — virgin sheet has a pure white cut edge

  2. Thermoforming test: when heated and bent, recycled sheet bubbles and distorts easily

  3. Odor test: recycled sheet gives off a pungent odor when cut, and the material itself carries a smell

  4. Surface sensitivity test: recycled sheet tends to craze and crack on contact with paint or solvents

  5. Light transmission comparison: at the same thickness, virgin sheet transmits noticeably more light than recycled sheet

For industrial guarding applications such as equipment guards, conveyor line guard panels, and viewing windows, choose pure virgin acrylic sheet. Although the initial purchase cost is slightly higher than recycled sheet, over the equipment’s full life cycle virgin sheet’s long-term reliability, stable light transmission, durability, and safety genuinely protect the operation and appearance of high-end equipment, avoiding hidden costs such as production stoppages and frequent replacement when guard material fails.
